For me, the Great Unfilmable is Gene Wolfe’s body of work, particularly the Book of the New Sun novels. They’ve got plenty of action and translatable visual spectacle, but everything that makes them really special, from the unreliable narrators to the beauty of the language to the time-travel shenanigans, could not

Doctor Who fans don’t really need encouragement to imagine the Rani into every upcoming episode.

Our Tories in Canada also want to kill our BBC equivalent (CBC), for the same reason - it’s liberal (and Liberal) propaganda. They are more brazen than ever, with their current leader (and most likely future PM, unfortunately) promising to privatize it day one.

For the benefit of Americans, it should be noted that the BBC is being attacked and defunded by conservatives in the UK, exactly the same was that PBS is here in the US because they believe it’s “liberal biasedand after years of gutting their funding, they will finally be abolishing license fees entirely in 2027,

Nowhere else to put this, really, but RIP AV Club’s comment section. I hope a rat crawls up Spanfeller’s ass and tears him apart from the inside out, but not in a kinky way.

I mean, the ‘90s X-Men cartoon’s entire thing was speeding through entire arcs in a couple episodes.

Can someone please tell that to Patrick Stewart as well? I’m tired of him just expecting to be able to keep using Star Trek as an emotional support because he’s in the twilight years of his career.

Hear that Paramount. No, just no more Picard. I love the character and the actor, but there are so many other characters I’d love to explore.

OT, but are comments turned off at The Takeout and AV Club because those sites were sold, or is it just a Kinja thing?

He’s the guy the GOP has been pining for since Tailgunner Joe got taken down, there’s absolutely no way he was going to face a single consequence.

I always get annoyed with questions like “Is the human race worth saving”. Of course it is, and while obviously far from perfect, if humans did become extinct then there would exist no possibility of growth and improvement.

Looks like ST:Disco still hasn’t gotten past the fact that Michael Burnham is the most special person ever.

“he also unintentionally helped create one of the most unsanitized children’s programs in history”

The trailer makes it seem like it’ll go the ultra-reverential Ghostbusters route, but hopefully they have some madcap comedy in here.

The only thing I remember him from is Pacific Rim, which was a bad movie he something managed to be the worst part of by a gap so large a Kaiju could sneak through it

Ehhhhh... Gonna slightly object to including Lock Stock on a list of QT wannabe films. Like what are the qualifications for a QT wannabe? Casually violent action and an emphasis on banter-y dialogue? Cuz that’s pretty vague. And while I see the parallels between Ritchie and QT I think he’s proven to be his own

Looks fine so far. I’m waiting to see how many practical effects and stop-motion effects there are. And obviously, we won’t know if the script works until it opens.
One thing that bothers me is that Lydia hasn’t changed her style since 1988. Most kids that were goth and emo in high-school are unrecognizable as adults

to be clear, Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters was terrible. It had nothing to do with the casting (all very funny actresses) and everything to do with the slipshod CGI, even more slipshod humor, and general lack of fun.

...wondering if that means Mariko has been to Blackthorne’s bed. (We’re wondering, too, after the last episode.)

It’s always refreshing to reread Tolkien after years of generic fantasy novels supposedly inspired by LotR, because LotR and The Silmarillion are weird AF by comparison. You couldn’t imagine someone like Brandon Sanderson devoting an entire chapter to Tom Bombadil.
