We just had municipal elections in my area yesterday, but I was almost as excited as I was in 2008. Dems and progressive candidates absolutely swept, taking extra council and board of ed seats in democratic strongholds and flipping many towns and cities to democratic control, even in many places that have been solidly…
Today I accidentally got a regular coffee instead of decaf. Help.
Friends, I don’t claim to be particularly fashionable and I can’t go shopping for clothes that often for budget reasons. Children need food and housing and all.
One thing that I have to give the right credit for is their ability to coalesce, when it comes down to the wire. Without that ability to circle the wagons, even if it is around a turd, there’s no way we would have ended up with Pres. Trump.
Florida Man gets a bad rap, but Florida People can be good peoples.
I thought you all might be interested in this indie web series drama about an open marriage. Short episodes, acting is pretty good, delves into the complexity of non-monogamous relationships. The direction and camera work is decent with the exception of a few odd choices. The woman who plays Keena definitely shines…
Morning Joe Shmoes engaged.
Someone get me a bunker cuz this shit is freaking me out.
Edit 1: my God, you guys, they’re still going! I and the other woman who suggested hey, maybe we have bigger fish to fry right now, have long since left the conversation and the men continue to stroke each other’s egos over how they speak for the marginalized and they cannot even abide people who would excuse Obama’s…
I’m seeing this tired speech make the rounds again around FB activism, especially the older set. Can I say how tired and bad this speech is? It craps on younger generations, pretends that America was wonderful when we used to look up to and listen to great, “revered” men, that America ever made decisions and laws…
One of our own — once upon a time, anyway — was cited as one of the recommended readings by the Women’s March! I haven’t seen her around here in years, but I do remember this piece she wrote. I hope she’s well.
I know that in a way, this is corporate feminism, because it was installed as a statement about getting more women into a broken, exploitative system that was never set up for liberation.
It’s hard to do, but probably necessary to make new gains in politics. I’ve started to try to do this with more conservative friends and family. It’s really hard to set aside my values and make an argument that appeals to them when I’d rather just scream “BECAUSE IT’S THE RIGHT THING TO DO, DAMMIT.” But as a woman of…
You can’t just leave and abandon the rest of us here and/or start a second Civil War. Instead of giving up, maybe fight a little first?
I’m trying to keep the momentum going after an invigorating weekend. I signed up to an action community near my home, donated to a refugee support group whose event I can’t attend, and I’m going to a rally tomorrow. I also signed up on SwingLeft.org for updates and to volunteer with my local Democrats.
Is it just me or does Alexander Hamilton on the ten dollar bill look a little bit like Paul Rudd? Around the eyes particularly.
So remember when Joseph Fiennes was cast as Michael Jackson even though he is a white English man and everyone thought hey that’s a terrible idea? Turns out, it’s a REALLY terrible idea!
Fox News has nothing to say about the ousting of longstanding announcer, Charles Brotman. I wonder why
