Thank you for this story, that’s the hardest I’ve laughed in a while.

Hear, hear. And with an extended-cab you can still have a long bed without your truck being longer than a school bus. Although the existence of the Dodge Mega Cab seems to suggest we’re in the minority on this opinion.

This engine has the ability TO CHANGE IT’S COMPRESSION RATIO at will, and they still tuned it for premium fuel. *sad trombone*

Try watching some Mighty Car Mods. Those guys love JDM, and their enthusiasm is infectious. Pretty much everything they do is good, but I’d start with the Mira project & Kei to the City, or Turbos and Temples, or their new Fairlady project.

“roadworthy” is a term used liberally

What I learned in this video is that FCA still uses the same brake pedal pad as my ‘96 XJ. Which probably used the same one as when it came out in ‘84. So the shifter design was too old and had to be replaced, but not the brake pedal pad.

I do love the AW4. The shifts are indeed firm, but I appreciate that. The programming on that transmission though, I think it might be wired directly to my brain. Maybe it just fits well with my driving style, but a slight twitch of your foot and the gas and transmission does exactly what you want, up or down, right

Bang-on. Journey’s are stupid cheap, and they’re a minivan without the uncoolness of sliding doors. Former neighbour of mine who lived up to multiple bad stereotypes drove a Journey, and was really proud of it. Called it his “ride”. It replaced a minivan, because he had at least 3 kids, maybe more, there were always

Come to Canada, we have plenty of them. Not on the roads, but in the junkyards, because they’ve all been treated as disposable and blown the timing belt. See also: Aveo, Optra, Lanos, and other GM Korea/Daewoo products.

Old GM (and probably other) vehicles do that every time you start the car. In the ignition switch is a “bulb test” position in between start and run.

ba-dum-tiss.

My Jeep (96' Cherokee) is $915 a year taxes in (We now pay PST on our plates). But newer cars seem to be above the $1k a year mark. I’m told the big dollars in AB are for young drivers, hence no teenager “owns” their car, their parents do. Unless it’s changed in recent years, SGI didn’t seem to take age into account,

Ah, SGI. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, at least our plates are cheaper than Alberta.

I know a guy who swears buy these things. His whole family has them for winter beaters. Buy them from someone’s grandma for $1500 (CDN) with <100,000 kms on it, proceed to drive it forever in comfort (but not style). They’re cheap on gas, fit six people, and have a reasonably large trunk. Plus, you can speed all you

Better get some hoosiers.

All the info you’ll ever need about the GM Tilt Column:

I enjoy that “high” and “on drugs” are two distinct possibilities.

The Metro/Swift/10 other cars/Firefly family is weird. Looks like a complete penalty box, sea of light grey plastic and cloth, super gutless, every piece of trim falls off, etc. But they’re enjoyable to drive, in spite of all that. I chalk it up to comfortable seats that are surprisingly bolstered, and 1800 lb curb

You’re leaving me hanging here, what’s the Good News! about the Dacia Sandero? Is it about the Duster perhaps?
