AP1 was developed by Mobileye. AP2 was developed in house, so they had to start from scratch and write all their own software. So, they couldn’t build on AP1 features right away.

What one update gives, another takes away. Their previous update took away 35 HP from my car and all other P90DL and P100DL cars! Can you write a story about this? We’re trying to get Tesla to reverse their course and give us back our power!
You can use a touch-less car wash or laser wash. That avoids this problem altogether since you drive through it. No conveyor belt to destroy your wheels too!
Warranty and leasing = don’t care. They fix all the build issues eventually.
That is pretty bad. Autopilot 1.0 is much better and wouldn’t have a problem on those roads.
And someone with a ~$120k Tesla P100d will out accelerate this car in 0-60 and 1/4 mile for a fraction of the 750k price. The only thing this will win on is top speed, because it has a transmission and can shift. The Tesla does not... It would be nice if the Tesla had 2 gears, that would give it more beastly…
Yes, the Tesla app is actually very useful. Biggest feature: I can pre-heat or pre-cool my car before I arrive.
The Model X has a tow hitch and is rated for towing. The S is not rated for towing, but some have done it.
The P100D doesn’t have hub motors. Just two motors, one in the front and one in the back. Standard differential and CV joint setup. The only novel drive point is that there are two independent motors, and no mechanical coupling from the front to the back.
You can do 8-hour road trips now, no trouble.
Counterpoint: You’re wrong and acceleration is great. I use the 0-60 acceleration of my P90D on every on-ramp. Why not?
I agree. The trunk of all sedans should be a hatchback.
This is awful. I hope it can be defeated easily. I bought an electric car so it would be quiet. Not to make noise intentionally!
Model X is way, way faster....
And they say lithium ion batteries in cars are scary?
There’s not much reason for battery swapping. With the existing batteries in the Model S, you start out with 300 miles of range every day, since you can charge at home.
Awesome review.
It’s fine to talk about self-driving cars, but it is irresponsible to ban them or take them off the road because they are not ready. That is the argument. By delaying deployment, you are increasing car accident deaths.
Just leased a Model S for 2 years. Tesla had some very discounted 2 year leases last quarter on the Model S to hold people over until the 3.
