Here in this 1977 interview with Eric Clapton he says that there was always this game( meaning guitar) between John and George and he said partly because John was a pretty good guitar player himself. Eric was referring to John’s Beatles years but Eric also played live with John as a member of his 1969 John Lennon

It’s not true that this face distortion only happens with the front camera lens,if you hold the phone camera too close to your face with the better quality back camera it also distorts the face making the nose,chin bigger and the face longer and ears not showing.
