This year, the LEGO BIONICLE line, the toy line that helped save LEGO from financial catastrophe, has been rebooted and relaunched. And it’s pretty rad.

Jim McDonough is truly a master at his craft. He likes Lego, boats and naval history. And when these passions combine, magic is made. McDonough’s epically huge, ridiculously well-detailed Lego navy boats are the stuff of legend.

New Zealand-based Lego builder Grantmasters recently completed this microscale build of the Cheyenne, the marine dropship from Aliens. With minimal bricks, he was able to create a very detailed diorama that includes the power plant.

Michał Kaźmierczak is the Lego super-builder responsible for the massive gates of Erebor build from The Hobbit. Well, he’s now added an insanely-large Lego interior to the build. And it’s incredibly cool.

LEGO have officially revealed their 2015 Creator Winter Village set. The Winter Toy shop comes with 898 pieces and will retail for $79.99. It comes with tons of accessories, and loads of little minifig toys, to bring happiness and cheer to minifig girls and minifig boys!

Lego builder and Zelda superman, Joseph Zawarda spent an insane 2 and a half years building the Hyrule Castle from the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The19-year old recently unveiled his massive creation at Virginia’s BrickFair this August. The lego castle is so huge it takes two cars to move it.

The Guardians of the Galaxy superheroes all seem destined for Lego fame, and I gotta say minifig artist, MikMikEternity totally outdid himself with his fully-sculpted custom Groot minifig.

Nick Trotta is known for his amazing Lego spacecraft builds. His latest MOC is the Atomium. According to Lego blog The Brothers-Brick, Trotta “rebuilt and redesigned it enough times that he can build it completely from scratch in one sitting.”

Lego superfans Jarren Harkema and Calvin Hartley studied Star Wars: Episode IV religiously, and spent hundreds of hours planning, designing and creating a Lego Technic replica of the Sandcrawler. It’s an impressive 3-foot long, 28-pound, 10,000-brick behemoth.

The website GodBricks is a repository for Lego MOCs with religious themes. Some of the builds are pretty amazing and some are pretty simple. But, what I find most fascinating on the site is the theological musings regarding God and Lego.

Lego has built its empire just like the interlocking bricks themselves, by connecting kids and adults, using pop-culture and mass appeal. On July 31st, A Lego Brickumentary will premiere. It’s the very first full-length documentary chronicling the powerful toy brand.

On July 24th, goddess of beauty and science, Gillian Anderson (AKA Scully on The X-Files) announced on Twitter that “it’s time to start an X-Files Lego campaign.” I want to believe this will happen. Since this is 2015, Anderson took her campaign to twitter to rally the troops!
