Yes that’s what seems so insane. It would be so easy to make accidental contact with those brass screws where they are. Indeed a putty knife or wallpaper scraper could easily slip under the flimsy faceplate (held by a single screw in the centre) and make electrical contact.

Insulating tape seems like it would be a bare minimum best practice for electricians to compensate for insane regs.

I don’t think it actually goes back to when you set up the account, it only seems to go back to 01/01/2001, I definitely had an amazon.com account in 1997 (because US books were stupidly cheap compared to the UK, except for textbooks which were obscenely expensive).
