Given today’s news, I wanted to voice my appreciation for this post that is decidedly not about sports.

Suicide. Is there a shortcut this guy won’t take?

I mean we, here in America and everything, literally employed actual concentration camps during World War II and everything. My first encounter with that term, in fact, was American concentration camps, not Nazi ones. I mean, you’re probably right about why there is such backlash, but is still bizarre to me because

That Jewish group letter is exactly why I don’t believe people when they call some progressive “anti-semitic”. Those Jews are spitting on the memory of the people murdered in Nazi Germany. Meanwhile we have groups of man loudly proclaiming “The Jews will not replace us” and that’s okay because they’re alt-RIGHT not

I’m not particularly a “scholar” of WW II, but I did minor in history with a concentration in the European theater of that war—and I lived in Germany for five years (had the opportunity to visit Auschwitz, as well).

Based on that education and those experiences, I can only say the following:

Americans tend to conflate

They are CONCENTRATION CAMPS. FULL STOP.

I just want to note that for all of the reasons Deadspin comes up to dump on the Ringer (mostly undeserved), they never point out that the Ringer is the first outlet to bring the Ball family to national prominence. Their first big article (June 1, 2016) was about how LaVar was raising a family of three-point

Productions at certain phases have a life of their own. There are critical moments when something can fall apart in a heartbeat, but once money’s been spent and contracts signed it can be easier to just complete the show order rather than fight the lawsuits if you cancel everything out.

Reagan was for gun control, Nixon created free dialysis and the EPA the current GOP would hate them all.

George Bush Sr. too.

I mean, based on his criticism of corporations, they’d probably call Adam Smith a socialist.

The amount of times the GOP calls whoever the nominee is a “socialist” will not be any kind of factor in the general election and we should stop pretending like this will matter.

That is a great little article. That Homicide episode with Robin Williams is amazing, too.

Thanks!

I bet David Simon did hear about those diaromas. There is a scene in the Homicide book where he along with the cops he is shadowing and a bunch of police cadets go to the Baltimore/ Maryland ME’s office and witness an extremely upsetting autopsy (of an infant that was beaten to death).

Of Dolls and Murder is narrated by John Waters, because Baltimore. I’ve wondered sometimes if Lester Freamon’s dollhouse furniture carving on The Wire might not have been inspired by the Nutshell Studies, since I assume David Simon probably saw them or at least heard about them while writing Homicide: A Year on the

Did GG renounce his American citizenship when he moved to Brazil or something? Actually curious on this.

You’re applying the Republican talking point of “taking personal responsibility” to the way other people vote. Okay! Totally normal.

What if you vote for someone who loses?

This is a well-written, nuanced, and absolutely terrible take.
