Seriously. These are incredible books. I can’t believe so many people are misled by the covers and the sexist idea that a book with a female protagonist (who, NB, is a public intellectual/author) has to be for women. It’s so disappointing!

That’s a bummer! They’re books for humans that have a female protagonist. It’s disappointing how rampant this attitude is. FWIW one of the most voracious male readers I know recommended the series to me.
They’re not at all romance novels - they’re Serious Lit w/ cheesy pop covers (there is some theory behind the covers but I can’t remember it exactly). The writing, realism, and breadth of subject matter is astonishing. Can’t recommend the books enough.
No.
If any of you have not heard ‘I Am A Bird Now’ & like to weep, run do not walk to listen to it. She is one of the most expressive singers of our time, with unbelievable songs.
Hello! Now that she is out as a transwoman, she goes by Anohni.
I love that she got drunk & offered fans tickets to a show without remembering. That’s like me except for waking up next to strangers! We have so much in common.
she is so charming but real-seeming, it kills me
he’s not perfect, but I love my President, man
not in urban markets where real estate is at a premium, unfortunately.
Mr. Robot is the best of shows. Also it has Rami Malek.
as a person with a Jan 3 birthday: no. They are tired.
legit brought to tears when the theme music came up
That’s a really good point. I think what I don’t like is the characterization of this as “mourning” a form of BC that’s “too effective.” But I get that if you’re actually ambivalent but feel obligated to get the most effective method, you do almost entirely eliminate any potential to have a “happy accident” baby. But…
I didn’t mean any of my comments to sound like judgments of anyone who gets pregnant without planning it. But I do think if you’re not using any form of birth control (I consider pull-out + fertility tracking to be a BC method!), you’re making the choice to maybe have a child. I don’t know why there has to be this…
Pulling out, if you’re also taking your temperature and avoiding fertile times, is super effective. And free! I would do that if I wasn’t too lazy and didn’t mind condoms. But not because I am ambivalent - because it’s simply another birth control method.
Totally. But I don’t think that lack of access is what the original point is about. It also still feels like a choice to risk it by not using a backup method when you’re out of pills & don’t have funds? I can’t afford an IUD, and monthly birth control makes my brain quit working, so I use condoms only (but very…
Totally. And for my friend, this was the only way she would have ever “decided” to have her baby - and she’s beyond delighted to be a mom. But mourning the idea of birth control that’s “too effective” because some people might be ambivalent to such an extent that they actual use birth control but secretly want kids?…
But deciding to stop using protection is a DECISION. Your birth control failing when you expect it to work is not a decision.
The # of dudes who, even if otherwise seemingly fine or even good humans, will pressure their partners into unprotected sex, is stunning.
