I think the mom was afraid they were school shooters. On the call she says one won’t take his hand out of his hoodie pocket and they won’t answer her questions and mentions “recent events” ... I have no doubt there was a major racial element here, but it also sounds like it’s a suburban mom who’s primed to see any

Listening to the call, it sure sounds like the woman reporting them was thinking of school shootings when she freaked out. Apparently shyness + death metal + tardiness = active shooter in some mom’s mind.

You’d be shocked by the amount of black street dust that comes in, even in Brooklyn. I open my windows all the time and just accept the dust will be part of the deal, but I also have a table in my bay window and every other morning I wipe it down with a lysol wipe and the amount of grime is stunning.

If you attack a journalist for being a journalist, it’s an attack on all journalists. If you attack a journalist for hiding in the bushes of a private citizen, bugging their house and then publishing the resulting conversation, it’s an attack on a shitty person who is not actually a journalist, just a stalker with a

Jesuits are the best. When I was a kid they were the ones you wanted to go to with big dangerous questions or problems - the regular priest would listen to you like your dad and then solemnly tell you what was right. The Jesuits would engage you in a battle of wits where they weren’t just listening for the right

Often I find myself craving candies or sweet coffee or ice cream - which is super unhealthy for me to keep eating especially while I am depressed and not getting off the couch as much

Too many people are saying they think Trump is “honest” when they actually mean “he says the things I self-censor”. His supposed honesty has absolutely nothing to do with the volumes of self-aggrandizing bullshit he duplicitously peddled for years.

It must be exhausting to be around Freeman sometimes. I don’t know what he’s like onset, maybe that redeems him a bit, but he sounds like he’d be a real downer during the press obligation.

Don’t forget the plastic surgery industry.

All I know about South Korea is observational, but there’s an entire cultural engine incentivizing this behavior. If young women decide they don’t need to get married, don’t need to do the scutwork for their in-laws, aren’t going to have kids, etc - that is a HUGE threat to the way a lot of other demographics believe

I’m all for reasonable gun reform, but the way this kid has leveraged a tragedy to launch his personal brand is a bit unsavory.

Right, and I think his argument is that he WAS impartially administering justice. Communicating about the administration of justice is the part he got snagged on.

I was taught by my extremely proper English grandmother that you put the milk in first because otherwise the tea might scald it - the idea being that a slow start on the tea pour allows the milk to heat up a little before the full force of tea hits it.

It’s the equivalent of making a kid who defiantly peed in his own bed sleep in it. And you know - he might not be wrong.

What he’s telling us is that if he didn’t think Hilary was going to win, then the case wouldn’t have been reopened, which indicates that pursuing justice wasn’t his motivation.

My french teacher shows us that movie and blew our minds. And then I found out the US release ends differently! RUINING THE WHOLE THING!

No one in that movie was charismatic, at all. He came across as a slimy fratboy and she fit right into the role of that guy’s prickly girlfriend. I actively wanted them blown up by the end.

Try it while driving, or while cleaning the house. I’m the same way, I can’t be 100% in an audiobook, but if I occupy the distractible parts of my brain with rote work, it seems to gel.

I liked it but the only way I made it through was having it on audiobook. There are long, long LONG parts that I know I would have been tempted to skim if I’d been reading. The audiobook made me listen to every word, especially the dehydrated bits.

No, it’s just recognizing that some people will be able to bring more to the show via their personal brand. I’d argue Matt Smith did not fit that category, certainly not to the degree that he’d out-earn the show’s central character who spent way more time onscreen than he did.
