Many diabetics are prescribed a combination of a long-lasting insulin (e.g. insulin detemir) and a faster one for meals (e.g. insulin aspart). At my pharmacy, the prices per box on Novolog and Levemir, 300 unit pens, 5 pens per box, are $386 and $412 (though I don't remember which is which).
