The managers are male and female so i don’t think it is about dates; more like salary costs and a perception in that industry that younger engineers or designers are more ‘with-it’ for the latest trends and understanding of their generation’s attitude toward tech.

You bring up an interesting point....I don’t think you (or I) as an outsider can do anything but provide love and support and let your friend / family member / partner decide to change how they handle life without their addictive substance / behavior.
