You might be thinking about this in reverse of what really happened. The company, Pebble, was failing. It wouldn’t exist in any form. Fitbit bought some stuff at their garage sale. That’s all. They hired some engineers, who would be out of a job by now.

Anytime you buyout another company, you should be required to honor any “contracts” such as warranties that you currently have outstanding.
