BMW M57 is pretty great.
BMW M57 is pretty great.
It’s not as (relatively speaking) plush as my old E90 335d, but it’s closer to that than the critical beatdown I received from the 30 minutes I spent in the F87.
After test driving an M2, I loved the general feel and size, but the suspension was a nonstarter with my commute into downtown Atlanta (and its generally terrible street maintenance). The M240 compromised a little on performance, but it still sounds pretty good, handles pretty good, and is comfortable in town and the…
The Corvette Museum track in Kentucky is pretty great. It feels a like Barber, but with a proper front straight. Granted, I’ve only done trackdays on motorcycles, but I’m willing to bet it’s fun on 4 wheels, too. That T6-T7-T8 combo is just fantastic.
Counterpoint: The Ducati 998 in Matrix Revolutions made the movie eminently cooler, and also brought one of the coolest bikes of all time to a wider audience.
This dude gets it.
Great, now I get to remember this every time I fill up my M240i’s thimble-sized fuel tank. THANKS, TORCH.
My dad impulse bought one of these a few years ago. Underneath all that retro bodywork is 100% early-00s GM doo doo butter. Plastic everything, rattles for days, and it never delivers on the promises made by the styling . . . except that it’s so slow that it gives passers-by plenty of time to appreciate its curves. …
MotoAmerica doesn’t race at Daytona - the 200 is produced & sanctioned by ASRA
My dad once pointed out that, no matter what the numbers and letters try to say, almost all vanity plates say “Dipshit.”
Has there ever been a good vanity plate?
1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4. . .I got it with 55K in 1996, and finally sold it in 2006 with 266K. It survived every bad decision an undergrad, then grad student, then young professor could make, including, but not limited to: taking a T-Bone hit that could have totaled it with the right insurance adjustor; a vindictive…
Last year, a MotoGP rider’s race was cut short when a visor tear-off got sucked into his intake; there’s always going to be trash on the track. Just terrible luck.
Gotta wrap that faux wood trim with some faux carbon vinyl STAT.
The “Faster” documentaries did this almost two decades ago; great primers for people new to the sport and some really great moments for the relative few of us who already knew the series & riders. It’s sad that so few people actually saw them - you pretty much had to read about it on a forum to even know it was…
Transmission service and mechatronics renewal on my 335d. Going to be a messy, shitty job.
Judging by everything we’ve seen from him and Honda, that break & associated injuries are/were way, way worse than what is/was being reported. Rushing him back and/or allowing him to ride with an injury *last year* resulted in this prolonged absence; him rushing to get back in a race would be idiotic, and…

Looks like the inspiration for the Monotracer. I drove/rode an MT that came into the shop for service, and it felt like the worst parts of car & motorcycle.
The function is undeniable, but there’s something visually amiss about raised bars (ie, not clipon-style bars) behind a sportbike-derived front fairing.
