I’ve always kinda done this. Hotel rooms, no matter how lux, are still rather bleh. So when I first get in one, I wander about putting their junk in drawers, rearranging the bathroom with my stuff. And I put something personal out next to the bed like a book or picture. Not exactly homey, but a tad less disconcerting.

I discovered about 15 years ago that the best way to use gift cards for me is to make a one-time payment to my mobile phone provider. It just makes my next bill that much less. Most providers make it pretty easy to do from their websites.

Another tip is to take an early morning fight. Even though the next flight might be more slightly convenient, a lot of flights get delayed because the plane is late coming from another city. If you take an early flight, the plane probably came in last night so it won’t get delayed.
