If you are a teacher, then I’m sure you can recognize the historical evidence that competency tests for voting is a very bad idea. Voter suppression via numerous methods, gerrymandering, lack of electoral college adjustments (add more votes, hasn’t changed since 1913 and got set in stone due to an antiquated 1929 law)…

Yeah that’s a terrible idea. The disenfranchisement of the majority vote is what got us to where we are today.
