Counterpoint: all this speculation signals to the showrunner and the BBC what fans are looking for in a new Doctor, and helps inform their decision. This is feedback. If they read articles like this (and they do) and see an open-mindedness toward unconventional choices, that’s a good thing.

Hey now, her dramatic work (Call the Midwife) is good, too.

I think there is some truth to this. Many of the choices suggested for a woman Doctor have been safely white, young, and/or beautiful... Nothing wrong with that but I’d like to see a wider diversity of women candidates. (Sophie Okonedo would have made a great Doctor, but alas(?) she’s already Liz 10.)

Paterson Joseph was/is also my unrealised favourite for the Doctor. I still hold out hope for him.

Eight.

“After consulting with federal authorities”

He has a very special way of alienating his allies.

Cuccinelli settled his case four years ago. The FBI raid operated from DC, not the state. And search warrants for one thing often turn up evidence for another.

I hadn’t thought of the Corsair returning, but now that you bring it up I really want to see this! Even if s/he’s dead in the far distant future that still leaves lots of time to interact with the living Corsair. I’m imagining a dashing adventurer character a little like Captain Jack.

Right?? I don’t care that people love this flawed movie and bend over backwards to defend it. I care that the film industry receives the message that there is a strong (if niche) market for smart, hard sci-fi and that this movie ain’t it. There is already too much soft sci-fi (dumbed-down,

Expectations. Other horrors/thrillers get a pass for stupid behaviour on the part of their smart characters because viewers go in with lower expectations. Scott promised us a smart movie in “Prometheus”, then failed to deliver. “Intellectual”. Inspired by “Milton’s Paradise”. “A little bit of education from the

No, the xenomorphs of the original “Alien” and the first couple of sequels do NOT show accelerated growth rate “all on their own”. They conspicuously spend a lot of time off-screen between life stages either consuming their prey or (it is heavily implied) synthesising non-biological materials into their bodies. Part

There is a difference between making foolish life decisions and making foolish work-related decisions. If your scientist friends’ foolish decisions involve things like violating biohazards protocol in the field or not using effective experimental controls in the lab then they are probably not good scientists.

Some people prefer hard sci-fi and others prefer soft sci-fi. The prevailing reason so many fans were disappointed in “Prometheus” is that it was both a departure from the hard sci-fi of “Alien” (and to a lesser extent, “Aliens”), and an unkept promise by Scott to return to that form.

I’ve had a C-section during which my anesthesia failed and it was all I could do to resist passing out from the pain. I watched Prometheus in theatres pregnant with my second child and those scenes played as both terrifyingly real AND comically unreal to me. It’s possible (but unlikely) to remain conscious during

What anesthetic? She was screaming in pain during that surgery. There was no anesthetic. Any painkillers administered afterward that would be powerful enough to allow her to do stunt work, would also have to be powerful enough to knock her out. A hand-waving explanation that medical technology has advanced

Ooh, Fry would be good. I do think they need to mix it up from the usual old white fellas but I’d make an exception for Fry.

Thank you for the recommendation! Followed

Oh lord. Well that’s me done with her then.

Yeah I wouldn’t even mind if Bill turned out to be the Doctor’s daughter (by River presumably, vs Georgia Moffat Regen)/granddaughter (Susan)... If it weren’t for the fact that we have already had: Amy and Rory as secret MIL and FIL; River as secret assassin/lover; Clara as manic pixie impossible girl/secret saviour.
