True, and little known fact: there was an Indian SS division. However, there was also a lot of just plain racism in Nazi Germany so it was a little surprising to me when I heard that. And for sure they issued him a visa and let him through the border - I saw those in his passport.
Mixed with the sounds of people who’ve listed their 991 GT3s at prices close to the price of this new one.
Iron know what you mean.
Unfortunately, no, there was no journal. And since I never knew him in person, I heard the story second hand from my father. My grandfather studied law in England. When he returned to India (Travancore then, Kerala now), he decided to bring a car with him and take it overland. He and a friend drove back. It did take…
My grandfather, who died before I was born, drove a car from England to India, through Nazi Germany, Iran (then Persia), Afghanistan, and the Khyber Pass. This was in 1936 or 1937, I believe. I have no proof, but I have seen his passport with all the various country stamps in it.
It’s the humid assholes. Sweat runs down the crack.
In a country with limited public transportation infrastructure, how would people get around if licensing requirements were lifted to, say, German standards? In urban and some suburban areas, sure. But a lot of the country has no transportation options other than driving yourself.
I think we’re in agreement. I much prefer CarPlay/Android Auto. The only exception for me is in-car nav that integrates with the HUD. If the phone nav could integrate with the HUD, that would be great and I’d be fine without in-car nav.
I don’t particularly want any of them if CarPlay or AndroidAuto is present. I do like an in-car nav system, especially when it’s well integrated with features such as the HUD. My BMW has this and it’s extremely useful. So the ability to send destinations to the car’s nav system is important to me; again, BMW Connected…
Good point, I didn’t think of that.
Wow, really?! I did not think there would be Yugo-based cheesecake. I’m amazed. I thought for sure you would be forced to go with the Star Wars angle.
/highfives to you too, Vintage1982Benz. For the Uber thing and your taste in cars as reflected by your Kinja name!
I thought for sure someone else would have asked this, but I don’t see it, so I’ll ask. Every time I’ve used Uber, they send me the license plate number, which I check before approaching. Is that not true for Uber everywhere?
In my regional, PCA Potomac, they do inspect the brakes, with little LED flashlights.
And you’re inspected at the start of each day in the event too.
This is why on my cars, I just go for high deductibles and low premiums. I will end up paying either way, so I might as well keep the difference in premiums and use it to pay the higher deductibles.
One of my track instructors had (still does, I’m sure) a GT3 (not RS). He took me in the car to demo the right line and such. It was quite comfortable and not all that noisy at all.
My car is yellow. It has yellow instrument panel dials. My watch strap is yellow. I have a yellow shirt. I was once accused in school of being yellow-bellied. More reasons for me to avoid visiting the UK?
Barack Obama not on the list?! (But yeah, I know you mean when we were kids.)
