No matter their deeds here on earth, those that have passed and crossed over the sea of time have stood before the God of all and have given an account of their lives as they entered the world of unending time.
So so many transgender women it’s just heartbreaking. Rest in peace.
Nelsan Ellis’s death hit home the most. I was him this year. By the time I made it to the hospital, I was so dehydrated from sweating and not drinking anything, I almost had a stroke. The delusional of withdrawal are so vivid. I can’t imagine what be a known star does to your ability to work.
This list is done by date of death and passes no judgment on the many flaws they may have had. Their death was significant. That is all.
The amount of premature death due to violence born of intolerance in this list is an absolute tragedy.
Technically, he wasn’t directly ‘under’ her, Roy Innis is.
Is it a cop? Is it a cab? Is it just some bamas from Suitland, Md.? We don’t know. We just know they’re in the rearview and we’re just gonna do the speed limit and obey all the traffic laws until they pass us.
I could never say this out loud in my community, but every year I become more and more put off by the fourth of July. Honestly, I can’t stand the rabid patriotism.
I was in a bar yesterday, and this white man asked me to describe America. I said, “fucked.” He said, “beautiful.” Another white man said, “opportunity.” I quit.

And, those…
Word. Like the idea of having to owe America anything, after you had to fight to get basic human decency from America (still fighting in-fact), makes little to no sense. July 4th isn’t our independence day to be real about it. Black folks didn’t get freedom when that happened. We had to wait till about 1964 for that…
“I’m beyond people equating patriotism with the military and more than beyond people refusing to see the parallels between patriotism and racism.”
No one is more patriotic than the black folks who fight for this country, knowing damn well this country will not fight for them.
The NYT did this dumbass writeup about what Independence Day meant to people across America (lol ok). I’m not going to link to it because it’ll just piss everyone off for the rest of the day. I’m beyond people equating patriotism with the military and more than beyond people refusing to see the parallels between…
Another interesting story in that Establishment article, is that Teen Vogue had the audacity to offer $50 for 1200 words...
Exactly, being black doesn’t automatically make one my friend, just as being white doesn’t automatically make one my enemy..
In a text message exchange, Johnson replied, “Love to chat. I hear you are one of those reporters that like to tear down black businesses.”
