Less overprotective? JOYCE?
Context is everything. You have to earn the state of extant characters.
The issues I take is of redefining the heroes journey to lead Luke to where he was. But I blame that on Rian Johnson’s hero deconstruction bent. The Luke at the end of Return of the Jedi was not the kind of Luke that could toss one of his father’s lightsabers over his shoulder like a piece of junk. They didn’t *earn*…
I honestly believe they are so deep in their delusional alt-left rhetoric that they couldn’t even see the movie screen.
From one of Charles’ pieces of input:
Have you seen the film? He fights tooth and nail to be left alone and only when he stops a woman from being raped does he in self defense after getting his ass beaten by drunken finance bros kill somebody. At which point he’s thrown out on the street with no way to get his meds that he starts to fall into the abyss…
This. I’m still not convinced I love the movie (I know I at least liked it), but it has me thinking about it days after I’ve seen it. I really like when movies have the ability to do that.
Incels?!? Really... we’re still talking about that crap. I live minutes from the location of the Toronto incel terrorist attack, I walk by it every day, I was there and saw the van an hour after it happened... I know a thing or two about Incels. Nothing in this movie had anything to do with Incels. It is about a very…
Okay, as promised: after reading the plot recap over on Wikipedia, I freely admit that I was wrong about the whole “incel” aspect of it. It doesn’t change the fact that incels are still a bunch of entitled, misogynistic assholes; but I promised that if I was wrong about Joker I’d admit it. I’m a Lantern of my word.
Well that was... supremely underwhelming.
Just seems a mess from that trailer, looks more like a cutprice Tank Girl than Harley.
Just pretend you’re a person that lives in Gotham. God only knows why anybody lives there. They seem fine with it all though.
“also idolize the Joker character, the violent clown from the Batman series, admiring his depiction as a man who must pretend to be happy, but eventually fights back against bullies.”
No. Base your opinions on reality, not the imagined reality perpetuated by people that don’t actually know what the hell they are talking about.
Yeah, all of the coverage like this has guaranteed that, if it happens, it will be a huge event across all media. They've created the dream scenario for any deranged fuck to get their big moment.
As I said, none of that matters if his description of the content is accurate. It sounds like it is.
In a later comment he told me that his entire opinion is based on the trailers. That’s it. The trailers. I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried. His comment about smokescreens and mental health is pretty stupid given that fact. He knows virtually nothing about the film he is criticising.
Sigh. And away we go. Next question: “What role does violent video games play in encouraging mass shootings?”
Even if he somehow managed put together his take on the Joker in a vacuum, it seems just as unlikely that this topic never came up during the movie’s production process, or that someone at Warner Bros. wouldn’t have thought to themselves “hmm, someone’s probably going to ask about the movie glorifying angry white men…
