This obviously sucks for the family, but if they wanted their children to have US citizenship I’m surprised they didn’t use an American surrogate/egg donor just to make sure their bases were covered. Relying on the claim of a non-biological parent was obviously going to be dicey.

Okay, first, nobody’s talking about 26 and 14. I agree that 21 as a bright line is relatively sensible; I don’t think you could find many people outside the “ACTUALLY it’s ephebophilia” types who would say anything else.

Why not let adults who want to date figure out whether they have anything in common? I’m 39 and can’t imagine dating a 24-year-old, but it seems to be working for Kourtney Kardashian. As long as everyone’s over 21 and there was no grooming, let people live.

I hate admitting this about my first age-appropriate crush, but I can believe the Fred Savage thing, especially if Harvey was egging him on. He was 16, and lots of boys that age have pretty gross, sexist senses of humor. Add in that it was a more misogynist era in general, and that he was getting the excessive ego

It always makes my stomach hurt a little when someone’s obvious mental illness is presented as weird news. What she needs is psychiatric treatment, a safe place to live and someone to look after her so she doesn’t give in to this compulsion ... but our society has no interest in providing that.

What this says to me is that about 3-4% of the population used to lie and say they were comfortable with LGBT people, but now feels like they have cultural permission to admit to their bias. I’m not sure it reflects a real change in actual support so much as it reflects a change in what people feel like they can say

Heh. Were they?

Dick jokes are eternal humor.

Me too! They probably got it by the censors by pretending she meant “taint” as in poison.

I feel like a party-pooper saying this, but this episode really didn’t work for me. Which is odd because I normally stan hard for X-Files’ comic episodes, but this one ... meh. It just seemed like it was trying too hard. Like the Scary Movie people were allowed to make an X-Files with the original cast. It’s

49? Damn. I already thought she was an amazing woman, but going through pregnancy at that age just adds to it.

Yeah, the mom says Michelle stole her internship.

In 2017, Amy Schumer did a film called Snatched. That film made $45 million domestically. In 2016, I did a film called Almost Christmas. That film made $42 million domestically. Amy Schumer’s budget for Snatched was $42 million...Almost Christmas’s budget was $17 million...Could somebody please make it make sense?”

To me “indigenous” suggests continued habitation, not being from a place several centuries before. I can’t see an argument for Israel on the grounds you cite that wouldn’t also suggest we should give most of America over to the Native peoples who inhabited them pre-1600.

Considering how much power the ultra-Orthodox have and how strict their rules for women are, I’m not sure I’d want to go down that road. Secular Israel is fine for women, but there’s plenty of misogynist WTFery in the country.

It seems like people who aren’t on the far-left fringe shrug and move on when Gal Gadot or Natalie Portman says something pro-Israel. To be fair I’m not sure either of them has gone so far as to call the Palestinian government child murderers, but most people know a)these are complicated issues and b)people on both

I’m not sure I agree she should have stepped down. Her tweets are strongly worded, but they’re directed at a government, not individual people, and as such seem like fair criticism to me. It seems to be very hard to publicly criticize Israel’s human rights issues without being considered a terrorist, a Nazi or both.

So, basically, Griffith feels she should have gotten a Feminist Defense Squad last May over the Trump photo thing, didn’t, is still mad about it, thinks people who support the Women’s March are also obligated to support her because feminism, and chose to use O’Brien’s tweet to make that point.

Does anybody understand the Kathy Griffin/Soledad O’Brien thing? Was Soledad a march organizer somewhere? It looks like Kathy’s just lashing out because Soledad thought the photo with Trump’s head was tacky, which doesn’t seem like it has anything to do with the march.

There is an argument that we should know who’s here that seems relatively fair. We don’t want every rapist and thief in the world to treat America as a sanctuary. But if they’ve been here for a while and they don’t have a significant criminal record here or at home, I don’t see good arguments for kicking them out.
