And they came instead.

I'm now convinced Firefly simply cannot be stopped.

It scarred me to the point that I was actually a bit relieved to learn that Soylent Green wasn't made from — shudder — sea greens.

Oh god. Logan's Run. That fucking dude was creepy.

I love how you come out of the woodwork for Richardson posts, fighting the good fight for what, when viewed from the right angle, just might be a conceptually not-invalid point of "hey, they didn't fight back, they went along with it, they probably agreed for all I know."

Why does no one like Pinkie Pie? I think she lives life with great elan.

Considering Serenity beat Empire Strikes Back a couple years back, I'm now prepared to see Firefly go all the way in this thing. Ugly.

Hardly a solution.

Why isn't Firefly on this list?

This is proof of nothing except that certain very passionate people will view matters through their own subjective lens, even when asked to approach something somewhat objectively. Cognitive dissonance indeed.

I say this with all earnest sincerity: You and your ilk are bad people. Like, Illuminati bad.

Well, first it's going to beat yet another hugely influential institution, Hitchhiker's Guide.

I am stunned. Stunned and saddened.

It's absolutely preposterous to even imagine. A massive body of work, spanning decades and multiple media, influencing tech and science development along the way versus a handful of jolly good episodes and a film. How is this even close?

Oddly, I was going to wade in here seeing the Andorian to argue that the answer is clearly and unequivocally "Vulcans, excluding T'Pol."

Consider also that once the Persian threat had been dealt with the far-less batshit Athens had to go kick some sense into the Spartans. Because the Spartans were just not very nice people.

Yup, yup, yup. Maybe my homerism is showing but compared to the Spartans, and viewed through the lens of modern Western values, the Persians were clearly the good guys.

Agreed 1000X. Usable fusion power would change things immeasurably, and probably open up innumerable other discoveries/inventions and improvements in various areas. But just breaking fossil fuels' death grip on our economy and environment would be huge.

This is very insightful, so +1000 there. I do think there is something to be said for shows succeeding in syndication where they do not require significant investment in watching A-Z. That's probably why sitcoms like Seinfeld and The Simpsons thrive there.

I dunno. I'm a pretty huge Trek guy, as a latch-key TV -addicted kid basically raised by the original series. And I quite like the JJ timeline/entries.
