Carl was indeed fantastic. To each to their own on Neeley. I remember listening to the broadway version again after many years, and while I remember quite liking the version of Jesus on there, I think Jeff Fenholt was his name, I now find it too showboat-y, and not enough heart.
Interesting that there is not a lot of love here for the movie soundtrack. A friend convinced me years ago of the argument that it is better, based on the performances of Neeley and Anderson.
