The aesthetics portion is probably referring to its wood construction, instead of the design itself. I agree if it was made of steel, this bridge isn't particularly good looking.

I’m no engineer either, so I’d finish that bridge and say “well that’s not going anywhere” and treat myself to some Aquavit and salted cod for a job well done.

I’m no engineer, in fact I failed out of Engineering school, but it looks to me like all the diagonals go the same direction, while if you look at the chart of trusses they all have diagonals going in different directions.

Was that a wooden bridge?

Overnight?

I like to think that there are multiple ways to get to the Trifecta. Possible inclusions are: Gators, meth, Chargers/Challengers, guns, God talking to you, God telling you to shoot things, roadkill, pooping in public spaces...

there had been six crashes there in the three years preceding Huang’s death”

The barriers are fine for cars this size. The barrier at this location had been crashed into more than a week before and CalTrans had not replaced it leaving a solid concrete spear without significant energy absorption exposed to traffic.

Predicting people will be stupid - probably not actually a stupid thing to do. ;)

Blaming Boeing for this is like blaming Toyota because some idiot is driving around in a 9 year old Corolla with the bumper hanging off.

Given the state of things, perhaps the “fix” to the ship involved baling wire. But we know that any copy editors that GMG might have employed bailed out a long time ago.

Kind of a misleading headline here - yes, the Kill Van Kull is just to the north of the Verrazzano-Narrows bridge, but in order to have hit the bridge, the ship would have had to make its way to the end of the Kill Van Kull, make a 90 degree turn to starboard, and then drift on another mile or so. If the ship was in

A bunch of small counties across Texas & Oklahoma did that too. The purpose of the declaration is just to open up funding & modify DOT permits, which in this case is for loads of extra tow trucks, highway cops, altering permits (if needed) for stuff like extra grocery/fuel deliveries, denying lane closures for roadway

I am going to be unpopular opinion puffin today and think that this looks like shitty maintenance.

They’re also removed for maintenance and reinstalled. Most of these issues lately are maintenance problems which really *should* be reported on but with more intelligence than “Boeing!!” and more like “why are airlines struggling with maintenance” - something that is also very concerning.

I thought she was smelling what The Rock was cooking

You conveniently forgot to mention if he’s eligible for those upgrades based on status. If so, there’s nothing wrong with this. I’m a NYer who hates Adams, but this is just cheap “journalism” and not even aviation related.

You should probably note that Boeing *does not actually make aircraft engines.*

Why is this blog post here? This is barely even plane related. I would get it if he flew safely on the Boeing door-shedder or had landed an ailing plane single-handedly, but this smacks of you having a gripe with Eric.
I mean, I won’t pretend he is perfect, but would you really want that beret-wearer with the dog?
