Last week I was on vacation, which was a great time to catch up on some TV. Kotaku’s editor-in-chief Stephen recommended The Leftovers to me, an HBO show that finished a three season run last summer. I didn’t expect to like the show as much as I did, and now all I want to do is talk about it. Jason Schreier and I sat…
The weekend is for trying to figure out what to do with the kale I bought to make kale smoothies with before learning that kale smoothies are disgusting. Also, video games.
While on vacation last week, I finally finished Far Cry 5. Though I’d already spoiled myself on the ending (occupational hazard), I was surprised by how moving I found it when I finally got there. The end wraps up the game’s biggest questions in a satisfying way.
The weekend is for it being the beginning of my vacation! I am very excited to learn to cook new food, replace my dead plants, and play a lot of video games.
I hated fighting Faith Seed, the highest-ranking woman in Far Cry 5’s fictional cult. She was confusing, annoying, and—like all the game’s enemies—wanted to kill me. I was supposed to hate her, but I didn’t relish winning our final battle. Faith embodies the ugliness of the game’s cult, The Project at Eden’s Gate,…
The weekend is for binge-watching a PBS Masterpiece Theater show about a WWI department store, because you’re just that cool. It’s also for playing video games.

Here’s how things have gone…

At a certain point in Frostpunk you get the option to choose a path: order or faith. This opens up a new set of laws you can enact, with their own progression. In my playthrough I chose faith. I haven’t used it to much practical benefit, but I like having it around.
If you need some David Cage before Detroit comes out in May, next month’s PlayStation Plus lineup has you with Beyond: Two Souls. As ever, these games are only “free” if you have an active PlayStation Plus account.
In Frostpunk, a new snowy city-builder by This War of Mine studio 11 Bit that is out today, the player develops a city in a frozen wastelands. You must fuel the churning generator at the heart of your town, feeding it enough coal to keep your people alive. The cold is your first and greatest foe, and it’s my favorite…
The weekend is for laundry (boo) but also sleeping in (yay). Also, video games.
