I mean, this is a lady who eight years ago was bragging about her support from “hard working Americans, White americans”, so I think it’s fair enough for people to be skeptical that she’s really concerned with diversity. But yeah, Bernie bros! Only 20 year old white dudes have a problem with HRC!

Along those lines, I used to think I wanted just cats and no babies, and then I watched this video like a million times.

I find the smugness and self importance of (some) engineers hilarious, because I know several mathematicians (pure math, not applied), and they tend to look down on engineers as simple number-crunchers. Which is kind of snotty, but it just goes to show, no matter how smart you think you are, there’s someone who thinks

Right? I’m always surprised that people are surprised that Ben Carson, a brilliant (really!) doctor is kind of dumb about other stuff. But being on the fringes of academia (and almost going into it myself) I’ve met soooo many people who are complete dimwits outside of their very narrow areas of expertise.

Yep. And if you’ve ever been privy to gossip about academic hiring, you know how much drama there is that has nothing to do with merit. Who was whose student, what areas of research are fashionable right now... Like a bunch of tween girls!

My husband is an academic in a STEM field, and especially in STEM fields there seems to be a stronger than usual belief that their field is a meritocracy, and if women and POC aren’t there, they just couldn’t cut it. (My husband is not one of these people, thank god.)

Her baggage also hurts her (perhaps unfairly) with independents and plenty of Democrats with whom “Clinton fatigue” is a very real thing. Also, after the jaws of life pulls the Republican nominee out of this clown car pile up, expectations will be so low that if he can form two coherent sentences, he’ll start seeming

Hillary has always been a terrible general election candidate, though. She excites no one, she has tons of baggage (fairly or unfairly), she has zero appeal to independents, and she’s terrible at campaigning.

I’m not a fan of Hillary, in fact much about her makes me sincerely uneasy, but I agree with this comment. I would also add that the “Bernie bro” bullshit being directed at Sanders supporters is also damaging. I’ve voted Dem most of my voting life, but plenty of Sanders supporters are being drawn to the party because

Thank you! I am a woman in my mid-30's who supports Sanders, as are many of my friends (and many of my much older relatives!). Nobody in my social circle who supports Sanders is a twenty something “bro.” This narrative is so stupid!

Kind of like how Clinton found it politically expedient to care about POC after running a flagrantly racist campaign in 2008? Neither candidate is perfect, but complaining about “Bernie bros” before any of them even show up is intellectually dishonest.

That’s a good link! I’m partially joking— My mom in her retirement started teaching ESL at a place run by cool progressive nuns, but she still sort of fears their judgement in a strange way I will never understand. :)

I’m not a Hillary supporter at all, but she actually does fairly well in debates! The debate schedule was obvious ploy by the DNC to get her the nod easily. The only problem is— progressive Dems found the strategy disgustingly transparent, and those who may have been won over by her in the debates (where she actually

Only slightly related: My mom, who is 65, once ventured into her Catholic school library as a tween to ask them if they had any Nancy Drew. The nun sneered at her “You SHOULD be reading the LIVES OF THE SAINTS,” and my mom ran away terrified.

For real! That was one of the best parts of the last season.

I feel like the movies did this more than the end of the series. In the series, everyone had to compromise- Carrie was still single, Miranda had to move to Brooklyn and deal with family stuff, Charlotte had to accept not having biological children, and Samatha had accpeted monagamy even though it wasn’t right for her.

I had an ex in my early 20's who was much older than me, and I kept in touch with him a bit, until he became to toxic. He, in his mid 30's, would focus on women in their early 20's, and given that he was not conventionally attracive and emotionally kind of a mess, he never made much headway. When I gently suggested he

I came here to make this exact comment.

My husband and I have been speculating about when the dog-whistle anti-semitism is going to be brought out if Sanders’ prominance continues to rise. Looks like Ted Cruz is already on it.

Yep. She’s in a mental institution to this day, probably for the best, but he should be locked up in a real prision.
