Silence is, unsurprisingly, really good. I would recommend watching it in the theater since it's almost three hours long and demands a good bit of your attention.

All people wanted out of Suicide Squad was for it to be marginally better than Batman v Superman, and somehow it failed at what should have been an easily achievable goal. I guess what I'm trying to say is, fuck David Ayer.

But the New Order is a completely different Nazi-inspired totalitarian organization with a wholly unique humongous super weapon built to destroy entire planets.

I couldn't tell if Eggers was making the character of Mercer purposefully obnoxious just as an explanation as to why no one listened to his doomsaying or if he legitimately thought that this is what the voice of reason should sound like.

I just finished Flash Boys by Michael Lewis and The Circle by Dave Eggers. Flash Boys was interesting when it was basically a mystery about why the financial markets were behaving so bizarrely. But Lewis seemed to think we would be interested in these characters he uncovered, and they were mostly just bland, boring

It was a solid half a season of television. I think it was getting its sea legs, but there were still a number of standout episodes. I really wish it had received a second season.

On Friday, I saw Split, which was dumb but fun. At this point, all I really expect out of Shyamalan are some reasonably suspenseful films with some nice camera work and whose plots aren't too stupid that they ruin the movie. Split fit the bill.

When I left the theater, I heard a teenager tell another, "Google 'Mr. Glass.'"

Warning, spoilers ahead: This movie was dumb.

At this point, wasn't this pretty much the only move the rights holders had left?

Your move, Harvard.

This kid is boss.

Looking at many of these winners feels like being an anthropologist examining some strange, alien culture.

Hollywood: "Challenge accepted!"

It's like the internet has never heard of the word "allusion."

Ew.

"James Frain has been cast as Sarek."

I'm starting to think that Shyamalan has been embarking on a public apology tour for the last year or so.

So I take it the show will be called The Young Astronaut, then?

Yeah, I kept on waiting for the music to go into one of John Williams's major themes, and then it veered away just far enough to sound like off-brand Star Wars. It was like the Gobots of Star Wars music.
