Lol. I don’t think the irrationality of people in general can be underestimated.
I hear you on that not owning/owing anything mentality and if having the latest and greatest every couple of years is your schtick then that makes total sense. Just be sure you have some backup wheels ready to go when you bug out of that deal.
That’s a really good point. And if they nail that, I’d be much more likely to lean into it. If I were in a financial situation where I didn’t mind dropping $600+/month on convenience.
Totally agreed. And even if they did fix the delivery and concierge issues, I’d still most likely vote “no” on it, myself, just because it’s not financially viable investing in a depreciating liability that you don’t own.
First off, congratulations on the family decision! Second, I can totally see the case for convenience. That’s exclusively what would sell me on this. But I feel I’d have to be buying in for that reason alone and the convenience would have to warrant the $600+ price point/month for that convenience.
This looks as if it’s going to appeal to one segment of the market. There will still be those who want to own XC40s outright, even if they are used. And as Billy G alluded to, we’ll have to see how many folks actually adopt.
I’m not really into leases because by the end of it, you don’t really own the car and you’re investing in a rapidly depreciating liability. But if they were able to pull everything together and make it truly easy and streamlined, there is a part of me that would consider that value what I was investing in.
I mean I did just find a royalty-free version of Ave Maria.
And yes... extremely California is a proper description. lol.
Hey Rosin, I’m the Senior Video Producer. Kinda new to the team but working hard to bring you all a cool video experience with Jalopnik. I’d love to get to know you and the community better! Hit me up and we can chat about video ideas when you’ve got ‘em! :)
Non sequitur: but we just ordered a new whiteboard that I must say am very excited about.
I’ll tell you what, I’ll fund production, you fund the ad slot. :P
A slow-motion push-in on Raph’s smiling face as he slowly brings up into frame a medium format picture of some obscure car from the 90's that he shot. Would last the entire ad and be set to Ave Maria.
I can say that my girlfriend has come to appreciate cars more since I started working for Jalopnik. — We both enjoy exploring and driving around California a lot. Though we haven’t done it yet, we’d love to get into off-roading together.
Plus David’s Jeeps come complete with a David to wrench on them.
I’ve yet to experience the glory of Ballaban’s Yugo, but I must say that David’s Jeeps are quite the sight to behold... and fun to drive.
To a certain extent, I think it’s going to depend on what the area of study is.
Obviously a spork.
