Fuck off... OEM tyres are the only ones which have been tested for dry handling, wet handling, dry braking, wet braking, durability, grip level, breakaway, wear rate, road noise and fuel economy for that specific car. Any other tyre is going to be at best good in one or two of those areas but shit at the rest.

From what I have seen in objective measurements, larger wheels typically have more grip and faster response times but are worse for ride comfort.

They were talking about the integration protos at that point of the article. That's at quite a late stage.

Its normal. Protos are needed for so many internal groups to test their systemdms. Plus durability tests are often done in fleets of 10-15 cars.

1. Power steering isn’t banned in F1

It’s definately at the wheels. But goes to show how useless the “at motor” torque values are. If you don’t know the final drive ratio then it’s useless info.

BTW: A typical drive ratio for EVs is around 10.

What’s more convenient then plugging it in every night when you get home? Are you regularly driving 250-300 miles a day? If so, then yeah, it’s not for you.

Pity that all the tyre data and test data I have that confirms > 1G accelerations on normal road cars. As far as I remember they were measured in the real world on tarmac (not concrete).

You’re the dickhead who brought up the 1G limit and claimed it was some sort of limit defined by “actual physics”. It’s not about pedantry - you’re just talking flat out bullshit.

No it doesn’t actually. The 1G limit has been disproven theoretically and practically for at least 40 years now. Race cars and even road cars are able to crack 1G at speeds low enough that aero has no role ever since tyres were made using vulcanised rubber. Care to explain that one then?

There is no 1G limit btw.

This is a major change of tyre construction - the tyres need to be tested in real world conditions at that point in time end of story.

It's amazing how many people think that putting a car in production is as easy as clicking add to cart, forking over some cash and then waiting 3 business days.

Fun fact: The Commodore was an Opel platform since day 1. Look familiar?

You do know the the commodore was an imported engine in an imported chassis since day 1 right? Early commodores were the Opel Commodore, later models were the Opel Omega.

No-one gives a fuck.

FE seems to be the paraolympics of the motorsportscene. Prizes are given but no-one give a shit except the parents, friends and family of the competitors.

The buy off procedure to get brakes accepted by an OEM is absolutely mental. Big $, fleets of durability cars and loads of experience is required to hit the friction, thermal, NVH and cost targets. There’s no way in hell the aftermarket manufacturers go through this.

The tyres are a spring, that's correct. But they are underdamped and make a shitty suspension spring.
