Agreed, that’s what’s so great about autocross despite the low seat time per event. It’s lower speed so things actually translate to the real world, vs a track day where you’re regularly 100+ mph. I’ve done about ~300 autocrosses and a few dozen track days and it scares me how much better of a driver I am than the

You’re pretty much spot on. Where it gets interesting is seeing experts in a given discipline adapt to wildly different tech within that discipline. Like veteran gas-powered drag racers doing awesome things with electric dragsters.

Oh yeah no for sure you’re completely right, NASCAR is NOT the pinnacle of tech in any way. I just work in motorsport in general across about a dozen different series so I wanted to give some professional insight.

Something else you may find funny though, I know some engineers who bounce back and forth between WRC &

There’s actually some trickle down, albeit in weird/obscure ways. Like development in metallurgy for production engines. Not even kidding.

And to be fair to those who work on the cars - there is a lot of bleeding edge engineering at play, it’s just in the scope of maximizing “old school” (outdated) rule sets lol. But

Incorrect. I mean don’t get me wrong - these are not factory race cars. But the manufacturers invest a lot on the engineering support side as well as marketing. They design the bodies (yes, within tight parameters, that’s true), they have technical support centers for development and simulation, as well as engineers

This topic is a major and continual personal conflict for me as well. On the one hand, I genuinely love racing cars & track days and I love a screaming or roaring combustion engine. I just do, as many do as well.

But my other major passion is the outdoors. National parks, hiking, camping, etc. And these two passions

I’m not sure if it’s the exact same system he’s used in different cars, but Michael Johnson is a paralyzed driver that’s been racing IMSA for years using this same concept of control, and has been with this same team for at least the last year or so.

Not exact copy, but there’s a lot of similarities for sure. Not just design, but also some specific parts, like the transmission.

Turo. The LA market of Turo has a TON of C8s available

Plus the FiST can fit 15s over its calipers, can’t it? That could make for a nice cushy sidewall if needed!

If he loved his Miata but now wants/needs a hatch, but despite the band gear sounds like he doesn’t really need a ton of room... how is Fiesta ST and a boat load of money saved not already named?

The N and Focus RS hit close but both are far more money.

My main point was that OEMs are involved a lot more than simply slapping stickers on and tracking media metrics. There’s a LOT of technical involvement still. But I’m also not trying to suggest that these cars are full OEM creations or something.

Don’t get me wrong - there’s a LOT of just pure marketing involved, but it is at least a bit more than only slapping stickers. The OEMs built these cars. The teams tweak them and they’re obviously built to NASCAR regulations, but it’s really the same principle as GT3 cars. Each has an OEM-developed engine as well. And

I think it’s more the left who say that more than liberals, as the reality is that liberals aren’t *really* the left. But I know exactly what memes you mean lol.

Forgive me if you’re already aware of it and were only speaking on F1, but IndyCar has basically exactly that with Push-To-Pass

I mean IndyCar essentially has that with it’s Push-To-Pass gimmick, and it’s been pretty popular variation of discretionary DRS.

How can Tesla possibly be worth the same amount as Google?

I have a feeling both of the ones you rented were base trim V8s - I’ve only ever seen the premium interiors on rentals that were V6 or Ecoboosts.

For sure, I’m always willing to engage you genuinely. Your threads tend to receive a lot of negative feedback from people who don’t understand that you’re not trolling, and a whole lot of people who miss your points. But even though I do disagree with you on a lot of counts, you’re always reasonable and I’ve seen you

Hmm. I feel like we should be agreeing here, but there’s still something missing.
