Thoughts in real time:

Both terms are pretty classist, but “white trash” has always had an added dimension of racism to it for me, as it sort of implies with the modifier of “white” that non-whites are just “trash”. Like it’s somehow worse that they’re white because white people are supposed to be better than that.
