I’m acquantainces with a die-hard Bernie supporter and am friends with him on Facebook. He was recently quoted in a Huffington Post article because he has a Facebook group trying to encourage people to march on the Dem convention to probably this exact end.

Texan here. Pickles and onions are garnishment that enrich the barbecue experience; they are not a side dish. Side dishes cost something and any barbecue joint that doesn’t provide pickles and onions as a courtesy can GTFO!

Everything on that list would be charged as a “side” if you ordered it at a bbq place. Pickles would not. Because pickles are not a side. Ever.

I think everyone here can agree on salad. But if you say you’re bringing a side to my ‘cue, and you bring a jar of goddamn pickles, we’ve got a problem. Slaw is clearly superior in every way.

Mac n cheese at a cookout is one of the most dicey dishes out there. Unless it’s straight out of the oven, it’s basically just a curdled mess that barely resembles mac and/or cheese. Also, some people make that shit with eggs in it which turns it into a casserole; those people should be arrested.
