We use a private server and a collection of custom decks made by players from the Odeck and Groupthink. No actual assholes were involved in making of our games.

Saw a sign for a garage sale in the neighborhood this afternoon that emphasized “NASCAR Collection.”  Given the timing, we were tempted to go just to ask if they have any Bubba Wallace memorabilia.

I gave up on Max Brooks’ Devolution almost exactly halfway in. Framing the novel as the diary of a self-absorbed twit was a choice. Not a good choice, but definitely a choice. Every character in the small community was an insufferable trope in each in their own way. WinnieTheWoot read it before me and when I gave up Read more

Definitely clean it out but that can be done without affecting the look of it.

Oh, I love the whimsy of it filling up the space on that high wall in the living room!  You could put seasonal (fake) flower arrangements in the bell.

Like Lexador said, the chronology of the stories doesn’t line up with the publication order. Since you know of the existence of “The Lady Astronaut” you already know any spoilers for The Calculating Stars. Go ahead and read them in any order you want. Read more

The mosquito netting seems a little twee unless you actually live in the tropics.  I like the idea of just hanging it on the wall as-is.  And I wouldn’t try to polish it up.  Leave the patina.

It’s a little early here to start drinking but we’re moving next week and there’s about an inch left in my bottle of this. I have no intention of trying to keep track of that in the move. So it will get mixed with some Italian lemon soda and everything will be fine.

I’ve only read a few short stories this week and nothing terribly memorable. This came in the mail yesterday but WinnieTheWoot got first shot at it. I’ll probably start it later today.

No, I didn’t care for the Death’s Door. It goes too heavy on the fennel. This is Great Northern. The distillery is at the far end of the street from here.  They do a really nice rum, too.

Have you read Ted Chiang?  He only writes short stories and he’s utterly brilliant.

The Christmas scotch (Highland Viking’s Honor) of 2018 lasted all through last year. The Christmas scotch (Balvenie Double Wood 12 year) of 2019 probably won’t make it through the summer. Read more

We looked at a few houses last fall but didn’t find anything that really worked for us. One place we liked but it was so far out in the boonies that it didn’t have internet service. Then we got into winter and there was no way we were going to move in the middle of a Wisconsin winter. Read more
