Because they come in at different price points. Value is very important these days with all the competition out there. I’d rather spend $15 on Stardew and get 50 hours out of it than $70 on Doom for a 8 hour experience.

Slack is a bit more than a chat app, it’s like IRC but plugs in to all your other apps (email, dropbox, etc). It’s for team/project communication, not necessarily you and your friends.
