This looks like a Pure Headache to me! But I get it.

Did everyone else in the world realize how close Apple Martin’s name is to Apple Martini before today? I feel 16 years late to this joke. I’ve been walking around laughing at the name like, “Yeah. Apple. That’s a bad name.” But not understanding that what’s really bad is its proximity to a questionable cocktail. I

The judge was very clear in sentencing that she wasn’t jailing Grace because of her missing homework but because of her violent behavior at home. I don’t agree that institutionalizing Grace was the right move when her mother wasn’t on board, though. This kind of paternalistic attitude from the judge is bullshit. Grace

It’s his 7th. His first child died when he was an infant.

She and her attorney argued she has been “deprived” of education and therapy. She has between 30 and 60 minutes of individual therapy twice a month and has had three joint sessions with her mother. Before being detained, she was meeting with a therapist twice weekly in addition to family therapy and academic tutoring,

Beyond systemic racism and black incarceration, I think this is a story about how we’re continually failing to support the parents of mentally ill children. Privileged parents shell out a lot of money for specialists if they can—this is what happens when they can’t. Biting her mother at the age of fifteen is a huge red

That makes sense! I guess I’d just be more comfortable with the abstract/natural elements than with their personification. I thought one of the big draws of witchcraft was that it’s elemental and not tied to religious deities, but those might just be the witches that are more adjacent to me.

One of the problems with ballet, as I understand it, is that the teachers themselves were trained in an environment where food deprivation was normalized. They think it’s part of being a ballet dancer—and that’s a self-fulfilling prophecy, because it is an industry norm. Ballet, like elite gymnastics, has always been

Not all of us.

I agree with these criticisms, but I’m also making a larger one about the pressures that may have led to this situation. I know we’ve all gotten used to eloquent, well-informed teen activists, but the ones who make the news are usually really exceptional young people. This seems more in line with the teenager brain

We can absolutely survive four years of Biden. Can we thrive? No.

After a stint with veganism in my late teens/early twenties, milk has always tasted bad. Including whole milk, cream, and many cheeses. By bad, I mean that I actually gag. So, it’s not a philosophical, ethical, or trendy matter for me. I think some people really do move away from milk as they grow older and that’s not

I’m a high school teacher, so none of this behavior surprises me. I’m not saying that it’s definitely not a hoax, just that the behavior—and lack of self awareness re: white savior narrative—checks out. Teens’ brains are not fully developed.

However, I do find it odd that she describes herself as a youth human rights activist but doesn’t seem to have a presence beyond this one thing. I personally wouldn’t describe myself as a composer after writing one song, but alas.

What I’m saying is that the NYT is pretty meticulous about verifying a story before running it. They do need to check that a person exists before running the story. Of course, it’s possible that someone broke the guidelines before running the story, but what a silly way to jeopardize your job. It makes sense to me

I know there’s a strand of modern witchcraft that asks old timey gods for stuff and I...don’t understand why. If you’re after that energy, just focus on the sun.

Pro Tip: Don’t ask Apollo for shit.

Sigh. Before we all pile onto the teenager—there’s a lot of rhetoric in high schools that students need to “change the world” and it seems like this might be the outcome of that pressure. This is definitely not the most pressing matter that needs the youths’ attention, but it’s an issue she felt like she could change.

“A Rape on Campus” was in Rolling Stone. I’ve got my problems with the New York Times, but they don’t usually run stories without vetting them.

Yes, media and advertising has always contributed to diet culture, but social media makes it so much more personal. Now they’re trying to advertise themselves with their videos and their selfies. One bad photo angle can send a teen spiraling. It’s so destructive. Many young women are really great about giving lip
