The idea of medical care is that you keep people healthy enough to perform their jobs and be productive in society. Elective procedures - those which do not treat or remedy a physiologically threatening condition - aren’t always covered by medical plans.

If a diabetic doesn’t get insulin, the diabetic dies.

You’re right, it’s not medically necessary. They shouldn’t be covering that either.

This is an excellent point; the military shouldn’t be paying for Viagra.

A better statistic would be a comparison of ‘elective’ vs. ‘medically necessary’ medical expenses per soldier vs per trans-soldier. Body dysmorphia is an accepted medical condition; should the military pay for liposuction, hair plugs, and breast implants?

We have the highest prison population, some of the harshest sentencing, and also the highest gun ownership. When you make everyone a criminal, threaten them with life-ruining incarceration (or death by cop), and ARM everyone, you’re asking for a bunch of ‘easily startled’ cops and lethal encounters.

Unforeseen events were observed to transpire, in which the woman became deceased. The officer’s handgun was depleted of a cartridge.

I suspect there is a considerable gap between what you imagine vs. reality.

Racism (including institutionalized racism) = bad. Police violence / militarization = bad. Taking another police shooting as an opportunity to push out more divisive race-baiting snark = ???

Spagett!

I’d settle for less rape in society, but that’s just me.

While taser as a concept had been developed prior to 1984, it wasn’t until the early 90s that it began to see early use in police departments as a less-than-lethal weapon.

I was only in Portland a few days (and had the flu, thanks to the kid-in-his-mothers-lap-who-vomited-on-me-during-the-flight) so I didn’t see too many sights... but, damn, what an awesome city. Awesome food, good beer, people biking / walking everywhere, ridiculously scenic hiking trails and parks all over the place.

I know most people can’t elope, but keeping it low-key is in the same vein. Long after the spectacular aspects are forgotten, those who were will smile when they remember watching the two of you tie the knot in front of your family and friends.

I’ve been on quite a few bachelor parties now, and have to say that of the two basic types, (let’s black out and get strippers! vs. let’s just black out!) the latter is more... fulfilling?

Smoking what? I’m trying to envision but am unsure whether to picture cigarette butts everywhere, or a bunch of stoned friends laughing and floating.

That one person, sitting in the corner, sipping timidly from penis-shaped straw while scrolling through Instagram feed. After watching a couple of their friends be waved off, a third girl approaches.

The point of a bachelorette party is the same as a bachelor party —

One of my best friends just eloped with her husband. They’re super in love and didn’t waste a bunch of money on all the bullshit spectacle of six pre-wedding events and professional photo shoots. They just fell in love, eloped to Italy, got married during their month long adventure, and threw a (much cheaper and
