I think it had a lot to do with the actress. She’s clearly very warm hearted and obviously very sweet looking and pretty. It’s hard to see someone who looks like her as a tyrant. 

She really always had a black and white view of morality - people were either loyal to her/friends or disloyal/enemies. There was no room in her worldview for gray, complexity, or human failing. I wondered acting his acting but then I rewatched earlier episodes and he’s cute, funny, charming. Really an adorable character. I think it was the direction he was given on how to play Bran later on.
