Beat me to it.  My first thought upon reading this article was how much it reminded me of Germany in the 1930s.

What would be funny is if they did the same thing as Joe and Mika, refusing to acknowledge it at all until it becomes unavoidable (Joe and Mika never openly acknowledged being a relationship until they literally got engaged).
