This may be the best Kinja of all time

Wilbon is the problem with PTI. Kornheiser still prepares for the show, wants to make sure he knows what he’s talking about, and comes ready with stats and coherent arguments. Wilbon has reached the stage where he doesn’t have a clue what the show rundown is, doesn’t have informed opinions, and seems to think he can

There are some unwritten rules in baseball that are bullshit (i.e. there’s nothing wrong w/ bunting to beat a shift in a close game when the pitcher has a no-hitter). But isn’t there a point where you guys are just saying you’re against all sportsmanship and customs regarding respecting the opponent? You really

....and why choose pants so loose you literally cannot run in them?

As a Bears fan, I was still blind with rage from what happened last night until the third quarter of this Jets-Lions game. Really put things in perspective. Sure the Bears can be soul-crushing to root for, but it could be so much worse.

I genuinely am. Not sure how to convince you of that, but I really do think she was overlooked for years and didn’t get the credit she deserved for how brilliant and dominant she was (thankfully that’s changed the last few years). I’m still a fan, and I hope she wins the next Slam she plays. I’m just not comfortable

There’s no question she has dealt with a lot, and there was certainly a long stretch when she was the most underappreciated great athlete in sports (thankfully, she’s starting to get her due these last few years). But what happened yesterday was not something that was done to her. I watched the whole match. The

Also people act like McEnroe didn’t get a million code violations called on him for his antics- he did! He just usually managed not to get three of them in the same match. But he was literally disqualified from the Australian Open (while he was winning the match!) for repeated code violations. So it’s not like Serena

The coaching violation is not called often, but 1) he was coaching, it was caught on camera, and he admitted to it after the fact and 2) it was a warning that cost her nothing. Serena’s whole “I have a daughter,” “I’m not a cheater,” “you owe me an apology” stuff was total grandstanding. No one called her a cheater,

Jesus this is embarrassing. Day 2 of this and you guys are still buying that Serena was the victim here? I’m a big fan of Serena, but she has not been wronged here at all. The first code violation was for coaching - her coach admitted he did it and the cameras caught him doing it. No it’s not called all the time, but

Sure, but McEnroe got called for a million code violations in his career. He actually was disqualified from the Australian Open (while he was winning!) for repeatedly abusing the official. Maybe McEnroe was viewed by some as “fiery” rather than a bitch (although many people hated him too, and with good reason, he was

I’m a big fan of Serena, but this is embarrassing. She was getting outplayed, got frustrated, and decided to take on the umpire because she was struggling to take on Osaka. It happens. She’s not the first competitor to lose their temper at an official in the heat of the moment. But to pretend that this is about sexism

Counterpoint - considering Bell has essentially zero leverage (the Steelers don’t value the position he plays and his leaving will have zero effect on the enterprise value of their business, unlike say Lebron James leaving Cleveland) the fact that he could make $30M guaranateed over two years as a tagged player is

He’s made $30M in his career already and he’s 26 (despite multiple suspensions for off-field incidents). Pretty sure the Steelers’ business will do just fine without him; if he’s not on the team next year, does that affect the franchise value by even one dollar (answer: definitely not)? This isn’t Lebron on the Cavs. N

I’m shocked by the comments from the Steelers’ players. Feels like it’s about more than just the holdout. This seems premeditated, like they all decided they were going to rip him if he didn’t report today, and it’s hard to imagine them doing that to a player they like and respect. I would be furious if I was Bell.

Good on Green.  His reaction is 100% correct.  Every human who’s ever had a boss has said something similar, and most of us have said far far far worse.  No need to overreact, or take it personally, or pretend that a comment like that has any effect on winning and losing.

There’s not one word of this I disagree with.  Perfectly said.

So he’s a shitty GM, except for that time he built their Super Bowl team 3 years ago? Not saying they’re not bad picks, but you really think he’s the guy to trot out to prove great players can’t be GMs? I’m a Chicagoan, but the gold standard for that is MJ and probably always will be.

Thank you Tommy.  This is great stuff.

Yes, newspapers were doing so well before The Athletic came along. If only they would stop competing for talent, newspapers could go back to their pre-Athletic heights and it would be 1994 for sports writers once again.
