The photo looks like 1950s knotty pine paneling which was the rage at the time and still looks cool and fun in a Leave it to Beaver way. The 70s stuff was cheap trash but knotty pine paneling looked great and was durable.

Another interesting option is to spray a light texture over it and paint it.

It’s 2022, leave it. It actually has character (gasp!), unlike the awful soulless “gray cabinet/gray floor, white wall, with copy-paste mid-modern mass market instagram aesthetic furniture and fixtures” trash that flippers and tract home builders crank out these days.
