That being said, I’m super impressed with the ability of science to REMOVE ONE BABY VIA SURGERY and then successfully stitch up the uterus to hold a second baby for 5 more weeks. A+++++ science.

She had a c-section, at least for the first one. (Original article refs the operating room when Micah was delivered.) Standard of practice is c-section delivery for before 32 weeks, because of the risk of trauma during delivery. http://www.nih.gov/news-events/ne…
Ditto this. Our niece was born at 29 weeks and NICU beds are en entire, non moveable station. At 29 weeks, she was still too fragile to be held for the first 10 days or so, and the most contact her parents could have was putting their hands into her incubator and gently resting them over her. As a mother, I would have… Read more
YESSSSSSS THESE BOOKS. Louis XVI will never not be a pimply awkward kid obsessed with locks in my mind.
Pro-tip re: eShakti for mama Jezzies. You can email them and for $8 they’ll make any dress into a maternity dress. Different levels you can let out in the tummy region and a snap in the front to open for nursing. I work in a really conservative community where I have to wear long sleeves and below the knee skirts and… Read more
In all honesty, he might have been the kind of kid who would have gotten into Rice anyways. Kinkaid is a well-respected Houston private school. I went to an equivalent private school in Austin and Rice was pretty much a safety/likely school for the top 50% of our students.
The reverse happens for big name liberal arts schools and women's colleges in Texas. I went to Smith and my mom went to Wellesley, and we both regularly get the oh so polite "now remind me again where that is". She is still bitter about having someone tell her that she was "probably smart enough to have gone to UT"… Read more
Onion and garlic intolerances are actually pretty common and often occur together. My best friend gets a seriously upset stomach with both onion and garlic in any form, even though she loves them. She's also pretty polite and patient with restaurants about it, though, so hopefully that makes it better.
Aww. I'm at 9 days postpartum, sitting on one corner of the bed because I spilled breastmilk all over the baby and the other side of the bed not once but twice in the past hour, watching my husband do skin-to-skin cuddles at the foot of the bed to try to air out lil'cupcake's diaper rash, and this gave me all the… Read more
Not an individual story, but the Paris Metro system is so gross in the non-touristy areas that my best friend and I used to play bodily fluid bingo on our commute home. If you managed to see 5 different types of bodily fluids on a single commute, you won! (But really lost, clearly.)
OMG I'm bored out of my mind on my first day of maternity leave and this sounds like magical perfection. Where can I find it?
I work with the Amish, and the adorbs Amish babies never fail to make me ovary explode-y. The best is when there is a line of tiny ones all in matching colors.
I'm a few weeks behind. My weekly Call the Midwife watch buddy got some awful family news during the last episode we were watching together, so we're taking a hiatus until she's ready to start watching again. Read more
I HAVE SO MUCH CALL THE MIDWIFE LOVE I CANNOT CONTAIN IT. Chummy is my fave forever, because she's an adorable awkward face who finds love and is an all around amazeballs person.
I'd also venture that increased rates of multiple births, obesity, hypertension and other health conditions associated with pregnancy complications are likely involved.
AMEN. There is actually research that suggests the presence of armed school resource officers increases school violence. Also, there were armed officers on campus during Columbine who were unable to stop either shooter. (I recently had to prepare a boatload of research on this topic for my job.)
Actually, violent acts by adolescents have been steadily decreasing since the early 1990s and school-based homicides are statistically extremely rare. Even when tragedies like this happen, it is important to remember they are not common.
Ugh, Smith Health Services is AWFUL AND stupidly far away from anyone who doesn't live on the quad. Read more
Yep. Sorry if I was a bit snarky, I assumed most people knew since it was so well publicized. She was hospitalized early on for dehydration related to HG, which kind of forced their hands in announcing the pregnancy earlier than most typically would.
