I blame the floormats.
(Insert link to my diatribe in the Corvette recall post here. Same applies to the Jag.)
@v8corvairpickup: Exactly. I've always been rather mature for my age, so I usually feel like an old fogey, but I really feel like I'm swimming uphill here. Yes, I would like a nice-riding car with some creature comforts (for some reason I've decided I can't live without automatic climate control — spoiled with the…
Every day that goes by my conviction to buy a cheaper and cheaper car becomes more firm.
@P161911 probably shoudn't have: I think that's going to be me in a few years. There are several cars from the Malaise Era on which I'd love to do a full restoration:
Love it, love it, love it. Although I'd rather have an '85, this one would do quite nicely. Nice price for me!
I'm not really all that excited about this for the same reason I wasn't all that excited about the Ford Five Hundred and Mercury Montego — it looks like it drew too much from the Audi A6. J. Mays was gone by the time this was drawn, right?
How sad is it that, while looking at the photo at the gas pump, I instantly said, "Gee, self, that looks like the QT off of Dunwoody Place in Sandy Springs?" And sure enough, I scroll down the page and it's listed in Atlanta.
@S_Mazza: See, that's what I don't get — how does knowing the Cd of a rolling car help rollover results? I mean, I was an A-student in high school physics, but I don't quite understand the correlation...
Nice review. I'm tempted to go drive a hatch to see what it's really like, as I've decided I want something I can haul crap in as my next car, or, perhaps, maybe this as a second car (not that I really need more than one).
@scottcom36 has Weekday DT's, Weekend OD's: Here, here! I'm sick of all of these OHC engines today being "over square" — i.e., with more horsepower than torque. (Those of you who have an interest in aviation will get that analogy.) While I know that, for example, the new 3.7 and 5.0 in the Mustang are fine engines…
Hope I'm not being too terribly ignorant here, but what is that thing that looks like a tall can attached to the side of the valve cover?
Anyone got a lighter?
Since this is a Cougar, does it make it the Joan Rivers of trikes?
@tonyola: You're right — I should have been more specific. The '85-'90 C and '86-'91 H were the only years that had the front-hinged hoods. Really, I think they're a great idea, and I don't know why they don't appear more — any of you mechanical engineers, please enlighten me.
@charles5448: A neat place, and that's a great picture of it. Unfortunately I never went inside on my trip...instead I got to visit the lovely Amtrak station on Staples Mill Road. I wish Amtrak would move everything back downtown...
I'm probably one of the few on this site who doesn't mind a FWD car. However, I wouldn't consider it a deal-breaker for me if a car weren't.
