I’d have to disagree with that. When you become a parent, yes, you change but that doesn’t mean that you can’t (and shouldn’t) have interests, hobbies, jobs, and social interactions that don’t include children. Inviting you somewhere without your children is not some rejection of your parenthood. Babysitters exist for Read more

I guess we must be messy people? There are only 3 of us and we fill the dishwasher every day. Some days like on weekends I can run it more than once. We do cook a lot and make endless cups of tea and coffee. Read more

This is also what hurts many people who have years that they chose to stay home to provide child or elder care. They have may have years of zero or low income from part time work counted into their 35 years.  Also, many of them start out again at a lower salary when they do return to work.

I would disagree that a majority of people understand. I was at a lunch table today with a group of people, all post grad degrees and most of them, 80%, hadn’t even heard of it. Had no idea what it was, what was happening, what was being voted on, what was voted on originally. The other 20%, including the person who Read more

I think this unhealthy portion size is also encouraged with the size of dinnerware and silverware. The plates we had when I was growing up were smaller than many dinner plates sold today - I’m old so maybe it is really noticeable to me. In 1960, the average dinner plate was around 9 inches diameter, by the 2000s it is Read more

There are gyms that do have areas to just hang out to encourage this social aspect.

Yes! I have co-workers who are not at all comfortable with technology. They never know what is happening because they don’t read email. We have meetings that basically consist of a supervisor explaining things that could have been communicated in a 2 paragraph email - that she ends up having to send anyway because Read more

I am a head sweater as well. I can’t stand it. I look around the gym at all these women working out without a hair out of place. My hair is wringing wet and dripping down the back of my neck. Ugh.

I am making a savoury pie for Pi day today. Having a snow day is nice because I have some extra time. Trying Luis Troyano’s Pork, Sundried Tomato, & Asparagus Pie for dinner tonight.

This tip works fine if you live alone or if you have more than one toilet in your house/apartment. In my house, it never fails that within one minute of me cleaning the toilet, someone has to use it.

I just want my colleagues to learn how to attach a file to an email so I don’t have to leave my cell room to do it for them, for the 1,000,000th time. It’s the f*cking paperclip. Right there on the bar at the top.. The paperclip.

I also went to school in Europe in the 70s and never heard of lice. I remember being horrified reading a novel in which one of characters had lice. Now the way some people talk about them, every one has had them. My kids never got them here in the states either - although one did get ringworm...ewww

That just happened to my mom’s computer. I don’t know if it had to do with the update or not, but somehow it put her laptop in tablet mode - it is not a tablet, nor does it have a touch screen. I had to manually turn that off. Restarting didn’t help her. It must be a common issue because a quick google search Read more

I don’t know about other states but Pennsylvania has free online public school k-12. No cost to the parents. The students get a qualified teacher designing the assignments/quizzes/tests, etc. They can also interact with the teacher a certain amount of time a week.

While I agree with you about the having time alone with your peers, I don’t think that people today experience this. A huge amount of kids are driven from home to school, eliminating the whole walking with friends or waiting at a bus stop. Schools don’t allow kids to hang out near the school afterwards and since most Read more
