The pilot tried to graft the tone of Modern Family onto the Muppets. That is a bad idea in both theory and practice.

Once again, people come to the Shooting Challenge results to criticize the photos without having read the challenge description from last week. Yes, the photos are overexposed (I would have called it high-key). That was the point of the challenge.

If you are just getting started, the best thing is to learn to use exposure compensation. I typically shoot in aperture priority, which is A or Av mode on most cameras. This means I can control the amount of the photo that is in focus (depth of field) with the aperture and then let the camera select the shutter speed…

The point of the challenge was to not bring down the exposure.

Also, if you are trying for a longer exposure in bright light, a neutral density filter a common solution.
