My dad bought me my first two phones (actually my first was just his old one), but I did pick out a cheap smartphone (HTC Touch) without a data plan, so I like to think it's almost equivalent to saving my money to buy my first phone :P

HTC made some quality WinMo phones.

I had a HTC Touch on VZW which was amazing and I loved my uncle's Mogul - the fat keyboard brother of my Touch, real similar to your MDA.
These two had 400MHz processors though and my Touch had 128MB RAM :P
(The Mogul only had 64MB - lame right??)
