I really, really, really tried to like this show because interest wise, it looked good on paper. But I found June SOOO irritating (and that type of girl in real life) that I had to quit a few episodes in.

I am a fan of that blog! Wow, that article is great!
RIGHT ON!
It's all unsavory, I guess and I admit to not personally wanting to watch it, but I don't think it should be off the air. There is a market for "low brow" television, and I don't think Shawty Lo is less deserving of a show because his unconventional family is "urban."
I feel you. But I think the solution lies, not with censoring the more "unsavory" members of our community, but bringing a balance to portrayal of blacks by highlighting more "positive" people. That's why I love the attention that Issa Rae is getting.
That's an issue of semantics. Baby mama is an "urban" term and "urban" to mainstream America automatically=negative.
And so what is the result? The result is that we turn that very judgment inward (self hatred) and now we have 2 layers of criticism levied on us: that from racists and that from members of our own community.
But that's their problem. Like I said above, racists will find some way to shit on people of color. This concern should not silence Shawty Lo & Co's voices (in a world where people get reality shows for any number of silly reasons).
But where here does it say that he has financial difficulties? Shawty Lo is a successful rapper and provides for his children.
Right? And the thing is, nobody questions either party's claim to "family values" because they are white and outwardly religious. Yeah, Shawty Lo's outlook on birth control is troubling, but so is the Duggars' outlook on a woman's role and cult-like manner in which they run their household.
To reiterate a point I made about this very subject previously, we (the black community) sometimes get too caught up in what white people will think about us so we silence the voices of those who we deem "unworthy" or "embarrassing." That is living in bondage.

Am I the only one who can't STAND Solange? She (and her mother as well) act like total entitled jerks with nasty attitudes while the breadwinner (aka the reason they have any shine in the first place) is known for her humble and gracious demeanor.
I commented below on this very issue, but no, he is not a comedian (at least not anymore). He covers these topics in earnest and with conviction, practically trembling. His (at one point) Conservative "counterpart" is doing comedy because it is satirical. But John Stewart in this format is no more of a comedian than…
