I was using them as examples of images in the media, really. Two completely different images, but they're both media and they're both entertainment. Are we not allowed to criticize the kind of image Rihanna portrays because she's black? That's silly. Of course there are great examples of black women out there who's

"...I don't see much criticism from you about her."

Clearly we've never met before! lol I used Rihanna as an example because she's currently the most famous woman in pop. Gaga is another example, but I think Gaga is in a bit more control of her image, which I think most people can agree, is convoluted and kind of

I think you're confusing what I'm criticizing. I know singers don't always write their own music. I was using that as an example of things that they are not in control of.

Not that much really, just not a fan of her music.

Aw come on, that's not what I'm saying and you know it. :)

This is something I'd totally have printed and framed for my living room.

No, I'm familiar. As an "ethnic" person, I'm all to familiar with exclusion, especially from my fellow ethnic minorities. I could go into a whole rant about my own background/race being put into question, but that's a whole other story... I'm just saying that right now, at this moment, I'm personally looking at these

She doesn't just not write songs, she doesn't write anything that has to do with her image. That's what I'm getting at. And it's not a jab at her character, but it is a jab at the character she is portraying.

Surely, the way she behaves when she's having a good time should be how she behaves in her music videos, print etc?

Well like I said before, I don't have any evidence of her not being okay with what she's doing but I do know that she doesn't write any of her own music or design any of her videos or things like that. So when I see someone dancing to someone else's strings, it makes me question who this person really is. The fact is,

I'm glad we've been seeing more of them, lately.

Big Freedia and Solange Knowles.

Sorry, I misread. But the fact that you're calling my comparisons racist doesn't help. I'm not comparing these two women as a black woman versus a white woman. I'm comparing them as examples of two women selling two different images. That one is white and one is black doesn't make any difference because as an "ethnic"

I'm not sure how to put this into words, but let me try.

And if you're seriously suggesting that Lana Del Rey has received more backlash...

I'm not white, but nice try.

Well it's more like her albums are sold based on her sexualized image rather than the music itself. So I'm not attracted to that image, therefore the album (which I find boring) has no appeal to me.

You're right. I'll edit my comment. I believe she's "genderqueer".

You might be right. I just picked Rihanna because to me, she's on the same level as those other girls in terms of fame/image.

Oh I don't. I just know that what we see from her is written by someone else.
