Correction: not quartz (SiO2) but rather selenite (CaSO4•2H2O aka gypsum aka the stuff inside drywall).

I liked the film when it was first released, but it really was just another buddy cop movie.

This was already played out when it was called Alien Nation.

The irony of saving a flat piece of salt cause its pretty thereby preventing the ability to get away from fossil fuel powered automobiles.

Want to save the Bolivian Salar? Stop using smartphones, laptops, tablets and electrical cars. Or invent a viable alternative to Lithium batteries.

To each his own I guess. I find it to be an enjoyable show, with likeable characters, who are relatable... even if they are fixated on “ancient history”.

It’s a surprisingly fun show, and the characters are pretty much ordinary people. It’s not Trek, but it doesn’t have to be.

Yeah, with how much hate it gets from Io9, I’m not shocked.

No surprise, The Orville went unmentioned in a Best TV Show of the Year list on io9...

Yeah, this and along with her shockingly strong performance in the episode on the planet with Isaac she’s become one of my favorites.

Goddamn, so funny. I had to pause the show because I was laughing so hard.

Ed’s expression is priceless, but it’s Alara’s question and the nonchalant way she shoulders Gordon’s leg, before leaving Pria’s quarters, which had me rolling.

The best part of the Gordon gets amputated plot, for me, was by far when the leg fell out of the ceiling in the middle of their confrontation with Pria. It was just the perfect touch of slapstick to cap off the joke.

For me, a big part of it is how well they’ve been handling characterization. They do a lot with a little. For example, in “Firestorm”, Alara’s brief conversation with her parents reveals them to be TOTAL assholes who basically view her as mentally disabled. That explains quite a lot about Alara with minimal effort.

And then “Cupid’s Dagger” had to ruin it. Of course, every show has its stinkers. And at least “Firestorm” seems to have gotten things back on course.

I love this show so much I can barely stand it. It’s the Star Trekiest of Star Trek knock-offs I’ve ever seen (that includes the current knock-off version of Star Trek that’s actually called Star Trek...feh!)

It’s the moment where I realized I was REALLY watching something special, and that this was Macfarlane’s love letter to ST: TNG and not some simple send-up or parody. Probably my fave ep all season.

There hasn’t been nearly as much Orville discussion here as I’d like. It’s not a perfect show, but it’s damn good “light” Trek. I vastly prefer it to Discovery at this point, because this actually feels like Trek. And I’m surprised at the surprising number of weighty moments they’re able to sneak into what’s

I have an old Lego Expert Builder (predecessor to Technics) 755/855 Mobile Crane set. I recognize some of the same parts, especially on the arm assembly.
