My favorite take on the "Zoom in. Enhance." cliche is from Red Dwarf although the scene from High Anxiety - which I can't find anywhere - where Brophy is enhancing (enlarging) the photo is a great spoof of it as well.

Mark Strauss was hired by io9 to cover "the increasingly dystopian world of politics and science":

IO9 has had a certain trend with their articles, lately. An upsetting trend.

Why the FUCK is this on IO9?!

It only postpones the inevitable.

Not at all. I have all the faith in science. Science is sacrosanct. To fight it would be akin to becoming a creationist, or becoming a climate change denier. Of which I am neither. So when science tells me it's too late. It's too late. I will not fight it. I will not argue with it. I will no longer waste my time

Finally, at last, we have passed the point of no return. Embrace the freedom that has arrived. No more laying in bed at night worrying about the climate. We are free now. Throw off the chains. It's done. It is out of our control, we can go about our lives now. Enjoy the time you have left. See the sights, smell the

YEAH! Take that you hippy earth huggers! USA! USA! USA!!112!

Data is never faked, so definitely believe this without comparing it to results from other places.

Wasn't that the cut-off point that someone declared the point of no return? Like, if we reach 400 ppm, it's too late and we're toast?

So what was the excuse for last year and the year before when the US experienced very quiet hurricane seasons?

Any funding can be justified. How do we cut spending if everything that says science on it gets a pass?

Always got to be one person who wants to just create conflict. Well if all Republicans are going to be insulted by Democrats, why shouldn't we shut down every Democrat's whim?

An art degree led me to design grave stones for a living. It's not the high pay/high stress game design job I wanted since I was twelve, but the low anxiety that comes with it is a good trade off.

What, no love for the Military? All degrees will count for the officer programs...

I don't have a degree and I couldn't be happier.

Outside of scale, there is really zero difference between what's in these pictures and harvesting your own meat. I hunt annually, and I promise you, cleaning and quartering a deer, hog, etc., is no more appetizing on the individual level than what you see in the pictures on a large scale level. Guts are guts and

yup, big difference waiting all day in a deer blind up in a tree to catch something versus pulling in for a five second hamburger at any fast food place. Progress is disgusting to some people, we can't help them.

This. People hate to be reminded that the meat they enjoy came because an animal had to be killed. I understand vegetarians or vegans who object to eating meat taking issue with the process, but people who eat meat REALLY need to experience it first hand — and since I don't think getting a job a meat processing
