I think the corny approach to romance scenes was part of a somewhat crude attempt at period-setting; the characters generally speak as if they are lifted from early 60s television shows or movies. I would call the book fluffy fun but not particularly outstanding. It certainly did seem awfully YA at heart.

I feel like Jerry Jones actually sounds pretty reasonable compared to many other owners. He’s weird and a little funny and kinda gross, which is way better than the normal range from actively malevolent to plotting to end civilization.
